The Fireworks of the New Year

Once upon a time, in a quiet grove near a sleeping town, there lived a gentle bird named Ana. She lived peacefully with her family in a small nest hidden among green leaves. Life was simple and kind. Ana sang every morning, and at night she rested close to her loved ones.

One cold night, Ana noticed that her youngest chick was weak and hungry. Though it was late, nearly midnight. She decided to fly out to find food. A mother’s heart does not wait for the sun.

As Ana flew through the dark sky, a sudden bang shattered the silence. A bright firework exploded beside her. Startled and burned by fear, Ana lost her balance. Another loud blast followed, and her wing struck a sharp branch. Her wing broke, and she fell, trembling, to the ground.

The noise came again and again; colors bursting, sounds roaring. People below were celebrating the New Year, shouting joyfully, calling it

“Happy New Year.”

With unbearable pain, Ana struggled back into the air. Each flap of her broken wing felt like fire, yet she flew on, thinking only of her family. At last, she reached her nest.

But there was no song.

No warmth.

No life.

More fireworks had exploded near the tree. The nest was torn apart. Ana’s family lay still—silent forever.

Ana stood there, wounded and alone, as the sky above glittered with celebration. For humans, it was the beginning of a new year. For Ana, it was the end of everything.

She looked up at the bright lights and whispered in her broken heart,

“Your joy has become our death.”

Moral: Celebration without compassion can become cruelty. True happiness should never be built on the suffering of others.
